Our fire safety technician will perform thorough inspection and testing procedures according to the current Australian standards. AS 1851 is the Australian Standard that outlines the regular testing, inspection, and maintenance requirements for various building fire detection and suppression systems. It ensures that critical fire equipment remains in safe and effective operational condition. Here are some key points related to fire extinguishers:
- Routine Inspections: Fire extinguishers should be checked every six months. Inspectors record periodic inspections on tags or labels attached to each extinguisher.
- Pressure Gauge: If an extinguisher lacks a pressure gauge, inspectors verify that it is still full.
AS1851 serves as a crucial reference for fire service technicians, ensuring fire safety equipment is always ready for action.
Our fire extinguisher technician will also conduct the following checks:
- Check the extinguisher mouth is not blocked by any equipment, coats or other objects that could interfere with their use in an emergency
- Checks that the pressure is at the recommended level – on extinguishers with a gauge the indicator should be in the green zone
- The nozzle or other parts are not hindered in any way
- The pin and tamper seal are intact
- There are no dents, leaks, rust, chemical deposits or any other signs of wear and tear.
- Any corrosive chemicals, oil or other foreign bodies will be cleaned from the extinguisher
